The better to hear you with my dear....

We have been a bit slow at posting, mostly because we have been so busy with our cute little girl!

Megan had surgery at Cook's Children's hospital on Friday October 13th. It was a simple procedure for Megan to get tubes in her ears due to all the ear infections she keeps getting. The date was what was available, and we decided we WEREN'T superstitious, even though Dr. Strange was performing the surgery on Friday the 13th of October!
Everything went well. We learned that at cool children's hospitals they ask you what FLAVOR you would like the anesthesia mask to be. We also learned that the surgery is amazingly quick. Chris went to get a cup of coffee when they took her to the Operating Room (she waved to us at 6:58 AM), and he missed the surgeon coming out to speak with us, as he came out to tell me the surgery went well and that Megan was in recovery at 7:04 AM! She woke up, had a popsicle and some juice, and was in the car on the way home at 7:45 AM!

For recovery, Megan got to take in two "comfort" objects -- her blankie and teddy bear. In order to keep track of these, they got matching medical tags!

The links above have some info about ear tubes. In general, kids are more likely to get ear infections as their eustacian tube is much smaller, so can fill with fluid or plug more easily, and also because the tube is rather flat (as you grow older, it develops a slope and lets the tube drain naturally back to your throat)
